I absolutely adore and love Games Done Quick events. I look forward to them every year and they always make me feels so happy and full of hope.
AGDQ and SGDQ aren’t even about queer charities, so the way they unapologetically and aggressively support and promote trans people and trans rights really did a lot to calm me down last week. When a cis man, after a “TRANS RIGHTS” cheer goes “and, may I add, trans wrongs” it just reminds me that we are supported and we are loved. THAT is the statement of an actual ally who understands. And I’m reminded that this massive event and organization that raises 2+ million dollars a year for charity is going to be a regular and much needed bright light going forward. Fascists are lousy (as in, they’re like lice) in gaming communities. But this massive inclusive gaming event only gets bigger and stronger every year. Also there are fewer trolls in chat every single event. Aggressive moderation WORKS1
I don’t know what the future looks like, and I don’t know what the future of these events looks like, but I know that I can trust the team behind them to do everything they can to be as progressive, inclusive, welcoming, and friendly as ever. They worked HARD to make the community and events this way, and it has consistently proven to be the correct move as they continually grow and raise more and more money.
My wife and I are gonna try to make it to the Summer event this year :)
